Install
NullPlayer needs macOS 14 or newer. The easiest way to install it is Homebrew:
brew install --cask ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer
Or download the DMG and drag NullPlayer to Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens normally.
YouTube and Stream Ripper
The YouTube source and Stream Ripper download and convert media with two command-line tools that aren't bundled. Install them with Homebrew:
brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg
- yt-dlp lists channel uploads and downloads audio and video. Every YouTube or Stream Ripper download needs it.
- ffmpeg merges YouTube's separate video and audio streams into an MP4 and converts audio to FLAC or MP3. Without it, video downloads fail with
Postprocessing: ffmpeg not found.
NullPlayer finds both in the standard Homebrew and MacPorts locations (/opt/homebrew/bin, /usr/local/bin, /opt/local/bin, /usr/bin). Keep them current with brew upgrade yt-dlp ffmpeg, since an old yt-dlp can stop working when YouTube changes.
