Sound
Playback options are under Playback > Options in the app.
Playback
- Gapless playback, so albums that run track into track don't pause between them.
- Sweet Fades, a configurable crossfade between tracks.
- Volume normalization, so tracks play at a similar level.
- Play speed from 0.25× to 4×.
- Reference Tuning: Off, 432 Hz, 440 Hz, or custom source and target frequencies. It retunes local output, for example A=440 music to A=432, and works with local files and streams from Plex, Navidrome/Subsonic, Jellyfin, Emby and radio. It doesn't work while casting.
SRS WOW and TruBass
NullPlayer has audio enhancements in the style of the SRS effects from the Windows Media Player era:
- WOW widens the stereo image.
- TruBass strengthens low frequencies on speakers that can't reproduce them.
- A Headphones profile for TruBass.
They run in the player's output chain after the equalizer, in every skin. Windows Media Player skins (.wmz) get their own SRS controls, and those drive the same effects. See Windows Media Player skins.
Equalizer
- 10 bands in the Classic and Modern skins.
- 21 bands in NullPlayer Original.
- Equalizer Studio: 31-band curves with separate left and right channels and a parametric stage. Assign a curve to a track, album or artist and it applies whenever it plays.
- EQ Cast: casts to Sonos and Chromecast with the track's EQ profile applied, by rendering the track with its profile first.
Signal chain
With local playback, audio passes through the EQ profile, Reference Tuning, the equalizer and SRS before the output device. EQ Cast renders the track with its EQ profile first and casts that file, so tuning, the equalizer window and SRS aren't applied to it.
