Stream Ripper
Paste a stream or video URL, pick a format, and NullPlayer saves it as a tagged file. Find it under Output ▸ Streaming ▸ Rip URL….
What you get
- Formats: FLAC and MP3 for audio, MP4 for video up to 4K.
- Tags and cover art are written to the file.
.cuesheets are written for the rip.- Several rips at once. Start more than one and they run at the same time.
- No ads. You get the audio or video itself.
- Add it to your library. Finished files can be imported straight into your library.
Dependencies
Stream Ripper downloads and converts media with two command-line tools. They aren't bundled with NullPlayer. Install both with Homebrew:
brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg
| Tool | What it does | Without it |
|---|---|---|
yt-dlp |
Fetches the stream or video from the URL | Nothing downloads |
ffmpeg |
Merges separate video and audio streams into an MP4, and converts audio to FLAC or MP3 | Video fails with Postprocessing: ffmpeg not found, and audio isn't converted |
NullPlayer looks for them in /opt/homebrew/bin, /usr/local/bin, /opt/local/bin and /usr/bin, which covers Homebrew and MacPorts. Run brew upgrade yt-dlp ffmpeg now and then. Sites change how they serve video, and an old yt-dlp can stop working.
The YouTube library source uses the same two tools.
